Post-Shoot Costume Care — A Luxury Guide

Caring for investment-grade costumes after shoots — cleaning, storage, and preservation.

Immediate Post-Shoot Care

After a shoot or convention, costumes need immediate attention. Hang fabric pieces to air — never store in a bag or bin immediately after wear. Remove any tape, pins, or accessories before storage. Check for damage while it's fresh in your memory.

Cleaning by Material

Fabric pieces: spot clean immediately; full wash according to fabric type when needed. Foam armour: wipe with a slightly damp cloth; never submerge in water. Worbla pieces: dust only; avoid harsh cleaners. Wigs: brush before storage and store on a wig head to maintain style.

Long-Term Storage

Store fabric pieces clean, folded or hanging, in breathable garment bags away from direct light and humidity. Store foam armour flat or on a form — never in ways that compress the shape. Photograph each piece before storage so you remember exactly what was built.
