Skin Care Around Adhesives
Fashion tape, silicone lift cups, and costume adhesives need deliberate skin handling, not just enthusiasm about removing them fast. Before application: clean, completely dry skin with no moisturizer or oil in the adhesive zone — residue is the most common reason tape fails mid-wear. Removal: slowly, with an oil-based remover (baby oil or a dedicated adhesive remover), never pulled dry, which is what actually causes irritation and bruising, not the adhesive itself. Afterward: a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser and a nourishing body oil, then give the skin a full day before reapplying anything to the same area — repeated same-day reapplication is the fastest way to develop sensitivity over a multi-day convention.
Physical Recovery After Long Wear
Full-bust costume wear over a long convention day is genuine physical load — elevate feet at the end of the day, rehydrate more than feels necessary (costume wear and heat both increase fluid loss), and alternate cold and warm compresses for shoulder and upper-back tension specifically, since that's where the sustained postural load concentrates. A focused massage on the upper back and traps — professional or self-administered with a ball against a wall — addresses the specific muscle groups doing the counterbalancing work, not general full-body soreness.
Mental Recovery
Conventions are genuinely socially intense — hours of being recognized, photographed, and engaged with. Scheduling real downtime afterward isn't indulgent, it's the same category of recovery as the physical side. The next build can wait a day.
